In 2018, Oboeb Design approached me to design and manage the complete AWS cloud infrastructure for Témpolo Motor, an automotive review and comparison platform. What began as a greenfield infrastructure project evolved into a 3-year partnership encompassing architecture design, implementation, optimization, and continuous operational support.

Scope of work
The project required building a production-grade cloud infrastructure from scratch, designed to support a Laravel-based web platform with separate staging and production environments. My responsibilities covered the entire infrastructure lifecycle, from initial architecture decisions through daily operational support.
Infrastructure architecture and deployment
I designed and deployed a multi-environment AWS infrastructure with a strong focus on cost optimization and operational efficiency. Through careful instance sizing, resource monitoring, and proactive FinOps practices, I ensured the platform delivered maximum value while keeping infrastructure costs predictable and controlled. The architecture leveraged AWS EC2 for compute resources and Route53 for DNS management, providing a solid foundation for both development workflows and production operations.

High-availability production environment serving real users with optimized performance
Each environment was configured with appropriate security hardening, SSL certificate management, and deployment automation. The infrastructure design prioritized maintainability and scalability, ensuring the platform could grow without requiring major architectural changes.
Cost optimization and FinOps
A critical aspect of the project was implementing effective cost optimization strategies from day one. I conducted regular infrastructure audits to identify optimization opportunities, right-sized instances based on actual usage patterns, and implemented monitoring to prevent cost overruns.
Key cost optimization initiatives included:
- Instance right-sizing: Continuous analysis of resource utilization to ensure instances matched actual workload requirements
- Reserved capacity planning: Strategic use of AWS pricing models to reduce compute costs
- Resource lifecycle management: Automated cleanup of unused resources and artifacts
- Cost monitoring and alerting: Proactive tracking to identify and address cost anomalies before they impacted the budget
- Staging environment optimization: Efficient resource allocation for development workflows without compromising functionality
This FinOps approach ensured the infrastructure remained cost-effective throughout the 3-year engagement, delivering enterprise-grade reliability without enterprise-level costs.
Security and compliance
Security was integrated from day one. All environments operated with HTTPS encryption, automated certificate renewal, proper access controls, and regular security updates. The staging environment included additional authentication layers to protect pre-release features, while production focused on performance and availability.
I implemented deployment workflows using version-controlled configuration management, ensuring all infrastructure changes were tracked, documented, and reversible. This approach provided both security and operational flexibility.
Domain migration and service transition
When the platform underwent a complete rebranding, I managed the technical migration to the new domain. This involved coordinating DNS updates, SSL certificate reissuance, application configuration changes, and service endpoint reconfigurations across all environments, maintaining zero downtime throughout the process.
Complete platform rebrand with full domain migration across all services and environments without service interruption.
Ongoing operations and support
Beyond initial deployment, I provided continuous technical support throughout the 3-year engagement. This included incident response, performance optimization, capacity management, troubleshooting deployment issues, and implementing operational improvements based on monitoring and feedback.
The operational phase involved handling diverse challenges: managing disk space issues, optimizing web server configurations, resolving CORS problems for mobile API integration, configuring SSL certificate renewals, and streamlining deployment workflows. Each issue was addressed promptly with solutions that prevented recurrence.
Results and outcomes
The 3-year partnership delivered a reliable, secure, and cost-optimized AWS infrastructure that supported Témpolo Motor’s growth and evolution. Through continuous FinOps practices and proactive cost management, the platform achieved significant cost savings while maintaining enterprise-grade performance. The infrastructure maintained excellent availability throughout its operation, with rapid incident resolution and zero data loss across all migrations and updates.
What distinguished this engagement was the combination of solid initial architecture with responsive ongoing support. The infrastructure remained stable and performant as the platform evolved, allowing the development team to focus on features rather than operational concerns.
This project demonstrated the value of long-term infrastructure partnerships where proactive management, quick issue resolution, and continuous optimization create a foundation that simply works, allowing the business to concentrate on growth and user experience.
